Checque's in the mail.

So, I had some expenses as part of my move to the US which I had to claim from the relocation company. Anyhow, for some reason they have to give me a cheque, or in US English a 'check'. Not too much trouble you'd suppose. However, since I am banking with Citibank which is a pretty big bank by any standards I have to send them this cheque in the mail before I can get the money into my account. The reason being that they simply don't have any branches around here.

It's a big country y'all. Thank god somebody took the time to invent the interweb.

OS X and Cisco VPN Errors

I spent far too much time this past week or so trying to get the Cisco VPN to work with my Mac. It was working fine a while back and I couldn't figure out what was happening. I kept getting the dreaded 'You don't have a device with an IP address' type error.

Anyhow, the fix was to disable the networking device fw0
sudo ifconfig fw0 down

Apparently this device is used by Parallels, I really couldn't care less at the moment, I'm just glad the vpn is working again.

Hurricanes

Errr, slightly concerned after we saw a segment on the local news channel about the upcoming hurricane season around here. I guess the clue was in the name of the local Ice hockey team but I didn't think they meant real hurricanes. Oh well.

Apparently we need to get torches a battery powered radio and stuff like that. Should be exciting.

Movie

We decided that we needed an evening out of the apartment, so we went over to the Southpoint mall to watch 'Simpsons The Movie'. There were some great Simpsons one-liners but I don't think a movie length episode really worked. It just felt too long. Erin enjoyed it though. The Cinema was a decent size and the tiered seating worked well, Erin was very happy not to have to use one of those horrible plastic booster seats. One odd thing is that to get to the actual seating, you go down a long-ish corridor; Ruth said it felt like being in a motel, I thought it felt really seedy. As always it felt impossibly hot as soon as we left the air conitioned building, despite it being dark out.
